Behind the scenes of Deal or No Deal

Never heard of Deal or No Deal before? Grab a fresh cuppa and let us fill you in. First brought to our TV screens back in 2005 by Noel Edmunds (who some of you may recognise from the very first broadcast of the UK National Lottery draw!), Deal or No Deal is a television gameshow packed with excitement and chances to win.

Contestants take to the stage to pick from 22 sealed red boxes, containing random cash values ranging from a single penny to a whopping £100,000. At the start of each round, the contestant picks a box (es) to remove from the game. No one knows how much each box contains, which only adds to the excitement as you hope the contestant doesn't remove a high-value box!

Once all the boxes are opened in a round, the Banker dials in to offer to buy the contestant's box. The more low-value boxes removed, the higher the chances of the contestant’s box containing a large cash prize – meaning the Banker's offer will be higher!

Here comes the moment of truth: The contestant can either choose to say "Deal" or "No Deal" in response to the Banker's offer. Saying "Deal" will accept the Banker's offer to buy their box, whereas "No Deal" means the game continues.

When there are just two boxes left to open, the contestant can choose to stick with their chosen box, sell it to the Banker, or swap for the other box. Once the choice is locked in, the final prize values are revealed, and we find out how much the contestant has won. Phew, this is tense stuff, guys.

With gameplay like this, it's no wonder the show was so popular – or that is has run for so long. Over 3,000 episodes have been aired so far - Deal or No Deal 2024 is coming soon! - and millions have been paid out to the winning contestants over the years.

Nowadays, for players hoping to join in the fun, there are plenty of different Deal or No Deal-themed games available to take for a spin. There's no need to apply to be part of the studio, you can tap into the gameplay from the comfort of your own sofa with these online games.

Deal or No Deal Slingo explained

Combining all the fun of bingo with a classic slot machine, Slingo games are a fabulous choice for players looking for a twist on the usual bingo or slot game. Throw in the Deal or No Deal theme and we've got a recipe (or should we say…script?) for an incredible game packed with exciting chances to beat the Banker and bag a prize.

Playing Deal or No Deal Slingo online is simple. Become a member of Jackpotjoy and choose your wager to step inside the studio as the star of the show (that's the contestant, not Noel).

Just like in the TV show, you'll be offered your choice of boxes containing random prize values. Lock in your choice then hit 'Spin' to spin the reel. This is where things get a little different to the classic TV gameplay. Match numbers on the reel with the numbered boxes in the columns above to be able to remove them from the game.

Standard Slingo rules apply here, so finding Jokers and Super Jokers can help you out by letting you mark off extra boxes when they appear. Mark off entire lines of boxes on the grid to complete Slingos and climb up the pay ladder. Completing four Slingos will throw the Banker into the game, and you'll get to decide whether to 'Deal' or 'No Deal' for the first time.

Climb to the top of the ladder to receive the title of 'Deal or No Deal Slingo Winner' (fancy, huh?) and reveal the value of your chosen box. You don't just win the value of the box, though – it'll be multiplied by x20 to form your final prize.

You'll find out the value of your chosen box if you lose too, though that's not as fun.
