With so many different types of bingo games available to play, we're simply spoilt for choice! However, for players new to all the fun of bingo (where have you been?!), all these wonderful choices can seem a little daunting. Let’s break it down.
The three most popular types of bingo games are played with 75 balls, 80 balls and 90 balls. The most popular of them all? Here in the UK - and even in Europe - 90 ball bingo reigns supreme, with millions of fans dabbing away on a regular basis. Featuring all the standard bingo rules with classic ticket layouts, 90 ball bingo is the perfect first choice for newbie dabbers.
Nearly everyone has either played or seen bingo being played at some point in their life. Chances are, it was the 90 ball version that you played. But, if you have somehow missed out on playing 90 ball bingo before or the specifics of the game are a little hazy, then have no fear! We have all the basics to turn you into a bingo pro in no time. Well, maybe a little longer than no time, but you know what we mean.
Let's start with why 90 ball bingo is called 90 ball bingo. If you're thinking it's something to do with the number of balls in the game, then you're right! Consider yourself a bingo brainbox. The rules of 90 ball bingo are the same as the standard bingo rules, just with 90 balls numbered 1-90.
Not sure what the standard bingo rules are? No problem. Take a look at our complete bingo guide to get up to speed with all the bingo rules. In a nutshell, the main aim of any bingo game is to mark off as many numbers on your tickets as you can by matching those on your tickets with the numbered balls drawn.
To bag a prize, you need to be the first player to mark off a whole line (this can be in any direction you like as long as it's a complete line!), two lines or every single line on the whole ticket. If you manage to mark off your entire ticket, then you'll receive the very grand title of 'Full House Winner'!
Worried about missing a winning number? No stress! With our automatic daubers, your numbers will be marked off as they are called, so you can jump into the chat room and enjoy a natter with your fellow players without the worry of missing a bingo call. You can even pop off to put the kettle on if you want.
Aside from the number of balls used, the layout of your bingo ticket is probably the biggest difference between each type of bingo game. Unlike 75 ball bingo, which uses a 5x5 grid, and 80 ball bingo, which uses a 4x4 grid, 90 ball bingo tickets are laid out in sets of 3x9 grids.
Each line on the ticket will contain five random numbers from 1-90, plus four empty spots. Numbers are grouped in ranges of ten, with the bigger numbers featuring on the columns on the right-hand side, and the smaller numbers featuring on the columns towards the left of the ticket. By organising the numbers on the tickets like this, it's super easy to find them as they’re called, meaning you can spend less time searching and more time having fun!
Column | Numbers |
---|---|
1st | 1-9 |
2nd | 10-19 |
3rd | 20-29 |
4th | 30-39 |
5th | 40-49 |
6th | 50-59 |
7th | 60-69 |
8th | 70-79 |
9th | 80-90 |
90 ball tickets are usually bought in groups of six, with all 90 numbers in the game being spread across the six tickets.
As if our wonderful 90 ball bingo games weren't already packed full of fun, many also feature an exciting twist in the shape of a bingo jackpot.
From fixed prizes, which are worth a set amount of money, to progressive prizes which keep growing every time the game is played, there are plenty of fabulous chances to bag a jackpot while playing 90 ball bingo at Jackpotjoy.
Wondering if you've got time for a quick game of bingo before running to the shops? Let's do the maths.
In our 90 ball titles, one game can take an average of four to ten minutes for a player to land a full house. Of course, this is all based on how quickly players manage to find their numbers, so the game could be even shorter or slightly longer. So, if you're planning on squeezing a game in before heading out, then we'd recommend making sure you set aside a little more time just in case the game overruns.
